Which of the August 10 patch's stated changes moved hidden values without flipping a bar — and how big are those invisible moves in real games?
How to test: Pick a stated-but-invisible change (LeBron's threes/handles buff or blocks nerf, Jaylen Brown's twos buff on an already-maxed bar, Boozer's stamina/rebounds trim, Peterson's handles trim). Compare the player against a same-bar teammate on the SAME shot or action, before a patch reference clip if you have one. Log makes/misses, timing windows, or stamina drain over a full game. Relative orderings are the goal — never invent exact numbers.
The August 10 update is the first patch to nerf its own rookies — and the clearest proof yet that the bars are buckets, not the whole truth. We re-read all 46 cards against our July captures: 40 reproduced their bars exactly, and the only six that moved are the six the notes name. That’s the validation. What’s inside the notes is the interesting part.
Stated vs. visible — the whole table
| Player | The notes say | What the card shows |
|---|---|---|
| LeBron James | stamina, threes, handles, steals, aura up; blocks down | steals 2→3 ✓, stamina 4→5 ✓, aura crowned ✓ — plus rebounds 3→4, which the notes never mention. Threes, handles, and blocks bars: unchanged |
| Jaylen Brown | twos and guard up | guard 4→5 ✓. Twos: already maxed at 5 — the buff exists under a full bar |
| AJ Dybantsa | threes, handles, steals, aura down | all four visible: each −1 |
| Cameron Boozer | stamina, threes, rebounds down | threes 5→4 ✓. Stamina and rebounds bars: still 5 |
| Darryn Peterson | stamina, handles down | stamina 5→4 ✓. Handles bar: still 5 |
| Giannis | Zone ability reassigned | Amped Up confirmed on the card (was Posterizer); bars untouched |
Three things worth staring at:
- LeBron’s unstated rebounds buff. The notes list five LeBron buffs and one nerf — rebounds isn’t any of them, but the bar moved 3→4. Either the notes are incomplete or a systemic change (the rebounder jump-height increase?) got baked into his card. Both are worth knowing.
- Jaylen Brown’s twos buff is invisible by construction. You cannot show a buff on a maxed bar. This is the cleanest evidence yet for hidden per-player values — the same question the two KDs’ identical bars first raised.
- The rookie correction. All three July rookies were trimmed in their second month. Day-one rookie cards evidently ship hot; worth remembering next drop.
The goaltending nerf
Rim-camping took the patch’s biggest strategic hit: the notes “extended near hoop dead zone and reduced block jump height boost” to curtail goaltending. A geometry change, not a rule change — still legal, just a smaller window at the hoop. Our own sessions say the move survived (LeBron still eats shots on the way down); the goaltending thread is measuring how much smaller the window got.
Open questions for this thread
- Are the invisible changes feelable? LeBron’s threes with a hand in his face, Brown’s twos, Boozer’s motor late in games, Peterson’s handle under pressure — same-bar comparisons, before/after clips if you have them.
- Steal nerf #3. Pump-fake steals are harder and intercept angle/reach/speed all came down again. Is on-ball stealing dead as a strategy, or just disciplined now?
- Dunk consistency went up. The notes claim improved dunking success — paired with the goaltending nerf, is inside scoring the new meta?
- Post-patch goaltending — our own sessions already confirm it still works (LeBron can still swat the descent); the open question is magnitude and who can still do it. Take it to the goaltending thread.

Frequently asked
Q. What changed in the NBA The Run August 10 patch?
Six players' cards moved: LeBron James (steals, rebounds, stamina up a bar each, aura crowned, Zone ability now Dropping Dimes), Giannis (Zone ability now Amped Up), Jaylen Brown (Guard 4→5), and all three July rookies were trimmed — Dybantsa lost a bar in threes, handles, steals, and aura; Boozer in threes; Peterson in stamina. Rim-camp goaltending was nerfed (bigger near-hoop dead zone, lower block jump there), steals were nerfed a third time, dunk consistency and rebounder jump height went up, and KO leaderboards plus an Emoji Wheel shipped.
Q. Did the patch change players without moving their bars?
Yes — the notes state changes that no bar shows: LeBron's threes and handles buffs and blocks nerf, Jaylen Brown's twos buff (the bar was already maxed at 5), Boozer's stamina and rebounds trims, and Peterson's handles trim. Bars are coarse buckets; a hidden value can move without flipping one. Testing whether those invisible changes are feelable is this thread's job.
