In the Zone Ability
Pickpocket
Raises Steals and reduces the penalty for a failed steal attempt while In the Zone.
What Pickpocket does
Pickpocket is the steal-hunting Zone Ability carried by the Philly street guard Spin Cycle — who, in the official lore, “lives off turnovers.” When the carrier enters the Zone, Pickpocket raises their Steals rating and cuts the penalty for a missed steal, so they can attack the ball and jump passing lanes aggressively without getting punished when a gamble misses. It is a disruption tool that takes the ball away and immediately starts a fast break the other way.
Because the ability is about creating turnovers rather than scoring directly, its impact shows up as extra possessions for your squad — and in a fast 3v3 game, extra possessions win matches.
How to use it
Get up into the ball. Pickpocket rewards aggressive on-ball defense, so guard the opponent’s primary handler and pressure dribble moves rather than sagging off. When you force a steal, push the tempo immediately — the turnover into transition is where Spin Cycle does his real damage. Just be mindful that overcommitting on defense can leave the rim exposed, so lean on a paint anchor like El Gigante behind you if your steal gambles miss.
The In the Zone meter
Pickpocket comes online through the carrier’s own In the Zone meter — each player charges theirs with their own play: tricks, dunks, dimes and buckets, with bigger highlight plays filling it faster (the Aura rating is that player’s personal charge rate). When the meter is full, activate the Zone with L3+R3 for roughly 30 seconds of boosted speed, power and stamina plus the signature ability. For Spin Cycle, line him up on the other team’s ballhandler before you trigger it so Pickpocket applies pressure from the first second of the window.
Both the effect text and the carrier list here are verified verbatim from the in-game player-select cards.
