Joel Embiid
An MVP big who scores, passes, and controls the paint.
Strengths
- +MVP-level interior scoring
- +Post pressure and matchup control
- +Rim protection and rebounding
Weaknesses
- –2 steals — won't pick pockets on the perimeter
- –3 handles — not a create-off-the-dribble big
Embiid is the rare big who scores three different ways and walls off the rim on the other end. Maxed twos, maxed dunks, and 5 power mean he bullies anyone smaller and finishes through contact — but the part that breaks the math is a 4 from deep on a 7-footer. Pull him out to the arc and he can punish a sagging defender instead of clogging the lane. Add 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 on Guard and he’s controlling both glass and paint at once. The soft spots are real: a 3 on handles means don’t ask him to break a man down off the dribble, and 4 speed on those feet gets stressed when a quick guard drags him out in space.
In the Zone: Amped Up. It pumps his Speed, Stamina, Power, and Jump Height all at once — a flat athletic overload. On a guy who already owns the paint, that’s overwhelming: stronger on post-ups and putbacks, faster rim-to-rim, higher at the basket on both ends. Let it rip when the half-court stalls and let him grind out the tough ones nobody else can.
Run him with a quick guard who can create off the bounce and cover the ground Embiid can’t — a Tyrese Maxey type, fast and a real handle, so the offense doesn’t bog down when the big sets up in the post. A floor-spacing shooter pairs cleanly too, since Embiid’s own 4 from deep keeps the lane honest while the wing relocates.
