- –Below-average rim protection
Harden runs a possession like a chess clock — slow it down, get you on his hip, and make you guess. The card backs the iso game all the way: maxed handles, maxed twos, and 5 passes, so once he gets you isolated you’re picking your poison. Stumble and he’s got a clean two; help off the kick-out and he’s reading it back to a shooter. The 4 from three keeps the step-back honest, and 5 stamina means he can carry the offense for the whole game without the load wearing him down.
The catch is on the other end. A 3 on guard, 2 steals, and middling 3s in blocks and boards mean he’s not the guy who locks anyone up — get him switched onto a downhill burner and he’s a target. He’s a creator first; build the half-court around his reads, not around him guarding the point of attack.
In the Zone: Ankle Breaker. It cranks his already-maxed handles and lets even his base dribble tricks snap an ankle — defender stumbling or flat on the floor. For a guy whose whole game is breaking you down one-on-one, that’s the takeover you want: isolate, chain a hesi into a cross, and the second your man slips, punish it — drive the lane, rise into the step-back, or collapse the help and dish. Don’t waste a dribble standing still while it’s live.
Run him with a knockdown shooter to cash the kick-outs and a defender who can cover the point of attack he can’t. Pair him next to a Kawhi or a Lock Down stopper to hide the guard rating, and his 5 passes turn every broken-down defense into an open look.
