Dunkfest — named officially in the June 25, 2026 patch notes — is one of NBA The Run’s randomized rulesets that reshapes how points are scored for a single round. When it’s active, the round belongs to the rim: getting downhill and finishing matters far more than spacing the floor. Reviews and community guides repeatedly cite dunk-heavy rounds as one of the clearest examples of how the ruleset system rewards an aggressive, paint-first playstyle.

The exact rule is the open part: community accounts split between dunks being worth more than other buckets and dunk finishes being the only way to score, and no official description settles it. Either way the strategy reads the same — but if you can test it in-game (jack a jumper mid-Dunkfest and watch the scoreboard), that one observation settles the question.

Rarity: Rare. The June 25 patch re-weighted the ruleset pool — Dunkfest is now a Rare round and Pickup is Common (patch summary), so expect more straight-up basketball and fewer gimmick rounds overall.

How to Win a Dunkfest Round

This is a slasher’s round. Lead with your most athletic finishers, attack closeouts off the dribble, and look for lob and putback opportunities in transition. Outside shooters who can’t get to the basket become liabilities, so if your run leans on a perimeter specialist, consider rotating in a rim-runner the moment you see this modifier appear.

Draft Implications

Because you don’t choose which modifiers show up, a balanced roster with at least one elite dunker keeps you covered when Dunkfest hits. If your squad is built entirely around jump shooting, this is the round most likely to end your tournament run — plan your draft so you’re never caught without a finisher.
