What Block Party Does

Block Party landed in the July 21, 2026 update — the first of the two new rulesets trailed on the Summer Heat roadmap. The official rule: all blocks subtract 1 from the other team’s score, the round is first to 15, and a team can’t go into negative points.

Rarity: Common — the developers set it to Common in the ruleset pool, so unlike the Rare gimmick rounds (Oop City, Dunkfest) you’ll see this one regularly.

Why It’s Different

Every other ruleset changes how much offense is worth. Block Party is the first one where defense scores — a rejection doesn’t just end a possession, it erases a point the other team already earned. A single dominant rim protector can swing a first-to-15 round by several points without taking a shot.

That flips the usual risk math at the rim. Challenging a set shot-blocker isn’t just a probably-wasted possession anymore — it’s potentially minus one. Suddenly the “just take it strong to the cup” habit is how you lose the round.

How to Win It

• Bring a swatter. Crowned-block bigs like Victor Wembanyama and El Gigante turn this round into a tax on every drive. Even one strong rim protector changes what the other team is willing to attempt.
• On offense, stop feeding the block. Shoot over the top, use the pick-and-pop, and drag the shot-blocker out of the paint before anyone drives. A blocked drive isn’t just an empty possession anymore — it’s a point coming off your board.
• Contest everything on your end. Blocks you’d normally skip chasing are worth real points now — jump the obvious pull-ups and trail shooters in transition.
